Activity was low and interest was lower; thanks to those who came on board and more to those who stuck around. Wish me better luck next time.
In the dystopian freemarket future of 2058, a world scarred and warped by climate change and economically motivated war, there is a revolution going on. Corporate governments that control armies of highly manoeuvrable mechs called "Sparrows" feud over diminishing resources, but they do not go unopposed; Ain Soph Aur and Sans-Culottes stand against them, one with a humanist message and one by any means necessary. Whether you are an investor, a Sparrow pilot, a mechanic, a land owner, or simply a drudge, you have to decide which side of the status quo to adhere too.
What is your Answer?
JUL22 - Because we recognize the sheer volume of documentation and information on I/O and how long it can take to read, we've decided to take action. We're adding more. We do it for you. The Appendices section of Documentation will primarily be interest data and Lowkey is just getting the bones in now but do check out the new Staff Roster which is finished and rocking. Don't forget to get involved in the event thread.
If you would like to submit a character for acceptance, this would be the place to do it. Please follow the form inside, check the faceclaim registrar, and allow 2-3 days for a staff member to get to your profile.
Accepted character forms will be moved to this board for later reference. If you would like to change a filed profile, enquire of Narrator or Sentinel.
If you are looking for relationships or family members for your characters, place an advertisement here. As important as who your character is, is who your character is with and what they think of him or her.
Secure, industrial land held primarily by TIANLONG and Taluqdar and in part by Hoshino, this huge swath of land and coast includes what used to be Tibet, Mongolia, Taiwan, Korea, India, China and even parts of Russia. It is a patchwork of landscapes, scattered with cities and the ghosts of townships and villages. The creeping sandstorms caused by the climate change are coming down off the mountains and steppes towards the major cities, many of which feature huge rotating dustshields.
The United Kingdom and large chunks of Europe and the Mediterranean belong now to the Kingdom-Conglomerate of Glasslyn, although its borders nudge those of many other companies, causing all their edges to fluctuate on an almost daily basis, creating a buffer of turbulence. The waters and archipelagos around this area teem with fish farms and algae rafts and combat patrols thunder by overhead.
Old Maxim and Pathkey territories in Russia and Eastern Europe contested between Taluqdar and Glassylyn, this unstable zone is primarily rough and mountainous. It's an unforgiving landscape but one that sustains a vigorous industrial life in the space between Sparrow warzones. It has a reputation for monstrous snowstroms that last for weeks or even months.
Although Vulperion and Glasslyn work to control the fertile area around the Nile and coastal regions, most of this land is desert and steppe. Oil drills with temporary villages in their shadow dot these unforgiving landscapes. These are valuable enough that every member of the Phalanx is willing to go as far as necessary to secure them, and in the vast empty spaces between drills there are bullet-riddle Sparrow corpses.
Vulperion's surface-based stronghold, this sprawling industrial and agricultural powerhouse and its affiliated oil drills, aquacultural fishfarms, algae rafts, mobile military sea fortresses and deep see exploration vessels, this island and its associated fleet has the landmass of a small country.
This once volatile area has calmed since it was claimed by the Companies: its rivers are lined with mile-thick banks of vertical farms pumping, using, cleaning and returning water to nearly a quarter of the world's agriculture. Galt and Vulperion Sparrows form joined patrols to protect shared holdings, leaving cloud lines in the sky.
What used to be the Philippines and parts of Indonesia and New Guinea, this scattered archipelago is used by Hoshino and Taluqdar to research new ways to maximize crop efficiency; the islands are connected only by rail and each is a separate laboratory and testing ground, although some of the larger areas have been converted into pleasure gardens under the biodomes that protect the priceless ecosystems from the poisonous air outside.
Between Hoshino and Taluqdar, most of what was left of the pacific after serious climate change has been reclaimed or completely re-built in steel and concrete. Skyscrapers that reach from the ocean depths where there are aquatic cities to dozens of stories above the waves are sometimes the only sign that there is civilization under the seas. Modified Sparrows swim through the murky water and rise up to hover above chains of islands connected by super highways and bullet train tracks skimming the waves.
Australia and New Zealand compose a sizeable portion of the world's more viable agricultural land and not a negligible amount of mineral wealth. Although primarily under Hoshino control, Vulperion owns some of the ocean nearby and GM is trying to expand in this direction so it is becoming increasingly volatile.
All across the West coast of the former USA and Canada rise the seemingly continuous freeways and flyovers of the Global Munitions Trade Route. Along its massive length cities and industrial plants spring up, or lengths of causeway peel off to slink across the deserts inland to link up with Galt land on the East coast. Some old roads have become walls, insulating the rest from invasion; the entire Fortified Area is walled and armed and connected by the unending concrete roads. Natural landscapes are rare.
The East coast of the USA and a large part of Canada, this land is primarily controlled by Galt. It is a region of seasonal storms that sweep up the western border where it meets the secure holdings of GM, dotted with high-tech cities linked by networks of bullet trains. Vulperion-Galt joined vertical farms rise above the more viable land, although much of the continent is covered in desert.
GM and Galt share this variegated region of the American continent, calm except for minor disputes. There are kilometer-long Aeropoli runways, bristling lines of skyscrapers arrayed across the edges of cliffs, vertical farms stacked near waterways - scattered across bald hills deforested in earlier decades and become hollow barrens and moors. Alpine regions have been converted into testing grounds.
The combined Aeropoli fleets of GM, Galt and Vulperion; a formation of floating cities able to house almost a hundred million people. Renown for high-tech luxury gardens maintained by Vulperion scientists and for authorised aerial duels between Galt and GM Sparrows, each Aeropoli unique in its design and brightly painted in company colours.
Although on the surface of the planet TIANLONG and Glasslyn may not see eye to eye, in the economic sphere they are amicable, keeping the might of the American companies at bay. Their massive combined fleet houses several hundred million, strings of electric and paper lanterns making the entire fleet look like a moving galaxy from a distance; both companies' Aeropoli feature practical, blocky, almost mass-produced looks from a distance but up close the light sculpture and sheer proliferation of illumination makes up for it, at least at night.
Taluqdar and Hoshino's fleets are not combined so much as flying next to each other, but the combined capacity of the two companies' Aeropoli is just under eighty million. Both fleets are armed with Hoshino defences that skirt the Airspace Disarmed Zone Contract with very fine lines. Hoshino's fleet has a very traditional architecture, while Taluqdar's is sleek and corporate.
